Metro Topeka Airport Authority

The Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority provides protection to Forbes Field. In 1941, Topeka Army Airfield was established in support of World War II. During the late 1940's, it became known as Forbes Air Force Base as part of the Strategic Air Command during the Cold War. In 1973, the SAC was closed and it became a joint civilian-military public airport. Today, it remains a joint service public airport located just south of Topeka with 44 based aircraft and 44,152 aircraft operations.

MTAA provides security, fire suppression and medical first response to Forbes Field. The USAF provides protection to the Kansas Air National Guard 190th Air Refueling Wing. The MTAA operates a fleet of unique apparatus to handle any emergency which might occur. This fleet includes 2 engines, 2 foam engines, 2 rescue units, 3 ARFF units, 1 foam tanker, 1 foam trailer, 1 bomb unit and containment vessel.
